“New Room” is a creative black and white documentary that explores a refugee’s struggle to integrate into Swedish society. The film uses gritty street photography-style visual language, interviews, photographs and voice over to tell a deeply personal story.

It has been three years when we started making of this documentary. What started out in 2013 as a road trip to meet his parents, has turned into a complicated discussion about politics, integration, racism, identity, home and the feeling of being “different”. As we face the current events, political uncertainty and immigration crisis, it is vital to understand and to see how each individual find his or her own way in a society.

The film has been funded by Film i Västernorrland, Konstnärsnämden and Sundsvall Kommun.
